This set is incredible and covers every possible need you might have. I ordered two of these sets (for a full set of 8 of each size) and I'm glad I did. I JUST received them, so I can't attest to the durability, but the glasses are classically beautiful. I was nervous that they wouldn't arrive in usable condition. After all SEVERAL other glassware reviews state how they arrived in shattered pieces. Amazon has surprised me again! They all arrived in tact (GREAT packing job) AND they arrived an entire TWO DAYS before the delivery estimate. Note, this is during the week of Christmas as well.

I was very happy when the glasses came to see that they were made in the USA. The photo above for this set is a bad photo. It makes them look opaque, but they are clear glass. They are very heavy and durable. All the glasses in the set are pretty and functional. My mother had a set of these from Libbey also made in USA and they have lasted twenty years, in fact she is still using them. This set is highly recommended!

I bought a few glasses in this style a while back to make up for some breakage in other glasses I had. I bought this set to convert completely over to this style, and will retire my remaining old glasses to Goodwill.



The pattern is simple but classic, and blends in with everything. They are easy to hold, and very rugged. (These are the only glasses that I will, in a pinch, put in the bottom rack of the dishwasher.) For day to day use it's very hard to match their combination of price, ruggedness, and looks.



Some reviewers of other sets in this pattern have objected to their looking like restaurants glasses, but restaurants use these glasses for exactly the reasons I like them. Admittedly, they may seem a little simple for special occasions, but I have other glasses for special occasions. I don't think one set of glasses can be all things for every occasion. For day to day use, these are the best I've ever had.

I was disappointed when I opened the box to see these glasses. This item is really a glass designed more for a shot of liquor than a shot of ice cream! I find the picture to be very misleading. There is no way that this glass could contain what is showing in the picture. It is just too small. It might be able to hold a couple of teaspoons of whipped cream. A few good points about the seller. The item was well packaged; the item was delivered within a very short time frame. This is the reason for the two stars instead of one. I can't recommend this glass because of its size, and the fact that I think the picture is misleading. This was a definite error on the seller's part. Shipping weight makes the glass a little over 5oz. I feel that the picture makes it look more like 10 oz. An error on my part was taking the picture at face value and estimating what I thought the glass would contain. In the future, I will be more careful in my estimations. If you are looking for a glass for a shot of liquor, then this is one item you should consider, but not for ice cream.

Have had these glasses for many years, as well as other sizes in the set. Use them several times a week, wash them in the dishwasher, have taken them on picnics, camping, in the back yard... Nothing fancy about these, but they are simple enough to go with just about any other glassware you have. I needed to purchase 24 for a big party and found them very nice looking (no bubbles in the glass or unevenness in stems), and they were so much better than the alternative of using disposable flutes.



I also like that they are sturdy enough to wash in the top rack of the dishwasher.

I did not buy these on Amazon.com, but through Target. I have had them for nearly four years, and yes, I have lost some of my set, but through my own clumsiness. I do not feel these are "too fragile". If you are looking for drinkware that would make it through WWIII, don't get these. They are eligant yet modern, and I have washed them many times in the dishwasher, and they have never broken. Treat them like the glass they are, and you'll enjoy them for a long time:)

Like other reviewers, I was a little hesitant about possible breakage when I decided to purchase these glasses, but so far I've been pleased. It's only been about a month, but the way my husband and I pull glasses from the cabinet, it's always the same ones (in front) that are being used so these few glasses have gone through the dishwasher many times already.



Amazon's packaging was excellent and there was not a chip, ding, dent, or scratch on the glasses upon arrival.



The glasses have a good thick base (not necessarily level on the inside) and a decent thickness up top - I would say between 1/8-1/4" thick. One thing not stated in the product description (or any reviews that I recall) is that there is a very thin, faint line (seam) going up opposite sides of the glass from the molding. It's not a huge deal and many people might not even notice that they're there. It's less noticeable because of the design on the glasses; where two of the "star" (look into the glass and you'll see a four-pointed star) edges go up toward the top of the glass, that's where the seams will be. It's no big deal.



Overall, having spent less than $20 for a set of 16 glasses, I'm very pleased. My husband really likes the tall ones because they can hold more beverage than our previous glasses; I prefer the shorter "juice" glasses, so the set makes a great combination. They're very pretty glasses and (so far) I'm happy with the purchase.



EDIT 12/23/09:

Almost two months later, and still no scratches, chips, breakage, anything. It seems that as long as you know how to load a dishwasher properly, there should be no problems with the glasses being too fragile.

I have been reading the reviews for these glasses and am surprised at how many say that they break. I bought my set 22 (yes, twenty two) years ago and have not broken even one. I was surprised to see this style still being sold today. The old glasses became etched in the dishwasher over time, so I want to replace them with the same style. I'm disappointed to hear of the breakage. I wonder if the quality changed over the years. I think I would like to take the chance and get a new set. I will post a new review after I've had it for a while, but the old set has been GREAT! I looked extensively online for a new style and just haven't seen anything I like as much without paying ALOT more.

I had this set right after getting married - it has since been replaced. The glasses, while gorgeous, are very fragile and thin. In addition, at the time we didn't have a dishwasher, and these glasses are difficult to completely clean without a dishwasher due to the small detail pieces around the bottom.



Over all, I loved the looks of these glasses, but for everyday usage they weren't practical at all. Three stars, because they are beautiful even if fragile.
