These arrived as promised, well packed, and are new, in the box, Libbey Glass Irish Coffee Mugs. I selected this particular pattern as it looks well with the Libbey Gibralter pattern glassware I have which is also panelled with a pellet stem. Unlike a previous rater I DID want twelve, since I do not plan on buy another set, ever, and that will take care of any breakage that occurs over the next 50 years. I purchased my Gibralter set (also Libbey) when I was in college, and have only broken one in the past 30 years, so that is an indication of how tough I expect these to be. This is more expensive than I have been paying locally, but with the economic downturn, patterns are being discontinued at an alarming rate, and they disappeared from my local store. I just wanted to be done, since the decision was made and the first boxes bought. These are not crystal, but are very pretty filled with red Spiced Christmas Punch in addition to hot chocolate, and of course Irish coffee and should survive family gatherings with children where things get knocked over and dropped on occasion. Satisfied with my purchase.

I am a devoted Irish Coffee fan and so I thought it would be fun to get some actual Irish Coffee mugs. When properly poured, and Irish Coffee looks beautiful in a clear glass cup; dark black on the bottom with a float of white cream on top.
The problem I encountered was that too many Irish Coffee mugs are sold in sets of twelve. I am not a restaurant and I don't think there are too many times when I would be serving up twelve Irish Coffees simultaneously (maybe back to back!), plus that is a lot of mugs to store when you aren't using them.
Fortunately I found this "Libbey Glass Milian Irish Coffee Mug 4 Piece Set" which was exactly what I was looking for. I really like the design, with the raised cup and the simple decoration on the base. The cup is a perfect size for Irish Coffees, and the 4-piece set is just the right size for a married couple with two more glasses for when friends are over.
The glass is pretty sturdy, and I'm not too worried about one being dropped and broken. I wish the glass was a bit prettier. It certainly doesn't sparkly like crystal, and is just fairly plain looking. About the same quality you might get at a local department store. But I can't really complain because I am not paying crystal prices, and this set delivers exactly what I needed.
